a time for everything.

waiting & trusting

Silence on this front mostly because I wrote a long post while in HK, and it’s now lost into internet oblivion. Then I lost all motivation for rewriting it and that is why.

No deep ruminations, other than I feel like I’ve been a hermit since Christmas. Some have taken offense to that, some just understand that it’s part of my routine of seeing people every once in a while, although it is more pronounced at this point.

Man, I am bad at keeping in touch.

I am also bad at writing consistently in my blog.

Well, here’s one down, many more to go.

hello kitty

Posted in rambles, wishful thinking by jentsang on 11/12/2010

my ode to hello kitty in jack o' lantern form on the far left.

While growing up, I loveddd Sanrio with a passion. When I was cleaning out my room this summer, I found so many Sanrio knick-knacks, and even some I couldn’t bear to part with. Does anyone actually remember those little trinkets they put on the outside of the bags with pretty stickers? Sometimes I think that was the best part of getting something from there. Anyway, Hello Kitty was never my favorite since she was so girly and frilly… I always preferred Pochacco (is that how you spell it? I JUST realized what a weird name that is) and Badtz-maru over her. Not only that, but she was the hardest character to draw out of all of them. But for some reason liking HK is kind of a nostalgic, retro thing for me. And I’ll admit that I’m kinda girly now.

I bring this up because I became a fan of HK on facebook tonight. I know, I’m weird.

From her facebook page:

Hello Kitty lives in the suburbs of London with her parents and her twin sister Mimmy. She has lots of friends at school with whom she shares many adventures.
Her trademark is her red bow that she always wears over her left ear.
Hello Kitty is as heavy as three apples and as tall as five apples.

Traveling, listening to music, reading, eating yummy cookies, and making new friends. As Hello Kitty always says, “You can never have too many friends!”
She collects small, cute objects like ribbons, hair accessories, candy, stars, and goldfish.

How did I never know that HK lived in the suburbs of London? But seriously, we have so many interests in common. But London wins over all.

on design

Posted in rambles by jentsang on 10/25/2010

I’ve written started a bunch of reflection posts of the past couple weeks, but I find that ever since the fall premiere of TV shows, everything in my life has been haphazardly done; my room is worse than usual; everything is said in half-ideas and half-attentively.

Unsurprisingly, I’m already losing the motivation to finish even this post. But I’ll just end on the note that design & creativity is so much more difficult that I thought it’d be. It’s so easy to watch Project Runway or any other talent-related reality show (not Jersey Shore, thankyouverymuch) and criticize the kind of clothes that come out, but it’s totally another thing to stare at bolts of fabric at the store and try to imagine the dress you want to make in it. And it’s so much easier when you’re at the store picking between the colors available of the dress you want.

But yes, total props to people who create. For now, I will stick to mediums that only require me to select and choose. Perhaps more on that another day.

not myself

Suppose I said

I am on my best behavior

there are times

I lose my worried mind

Would you want me when I’m not myself?

Wait it out while I am someone else?

I don’t know why, but jmayer expresses what I can’t really put into words sometimes.

It’s been a strange time lately. I blame the changing seasons… oh longer sunshine, how I already miss you.

Ok, not quite the weather. But I am exceedingly thankful for like-mindedness; it’s a great relief to know I’m not the only one who has crazy thoughts in her head.

Just kidding.

But crazy thoughts aside, I’m waiting for the darkness to subside.

jen necklace

I was at Forever 21 last week admiring how etsy-esque their jewelry has gotten; I’m not complaining since it’s 1/3 the price of true etsy sellers. I came across this necklace, and then I realized that it really embodied all the things I like: a nautical anchor, the Eiffel tower (despite not having been to Paris yet, I do admit to liking the idea of it. or perhaps this represents travel), and A, for obvious reasons.

Too bad I didn’t like it on me, otherwise I would’ve swept it up for the price & charms alone (though the A part would’ve been gross). There was a necklace that I did really like, but I wasn’t particularly fond of waiting in a line 20 girls long. Perhaps a trip to the mall this week?

progress!

Posted in rambles, room makeover by jentsang on 08/08/2010

I mentioned a week or two ago that I was finally putting some speed into redoing my room. While I was inspired by S painting the walls of her room, I think I’ll take it a step at a time and just work on the rearrangement of my furniture. Since I essentially only have 1.4678 walls of space due to the door, double closet, and a very large window, I haven’t been given much to work with.

But this week I nerded it up and made a perfect scale map of my room & its contents in order to figure out the best rearrangement (paying attention in math class finally paid off! j/k. it does everyday). I made a few plans about how to deal with the amount of furniture and lack of wall space. I bounced the ideas off A tonight via Skype (oh, the joys of semi-distance dating), where he made some suggestions and we finally came to happy conclusion that resulted in not having to get rid of any of my furniture, keeping my bed against the wall where I wanted it (supposedly the safest place in an earthquake, too, according to A), and moving my new desk next to the door (rather than having my back to the door, as it is right now).

Looking like a complete dork with my webcam in the middle of the night, but that’s my final plan! Excitement abounds. I only have to move about four pieces of furniture, which isn’t too bad, barring the amount of stuff I have on this side of the room. I’m debating which I’m procrastinating more right now: writing my last speech for class or cleaning up. Yikes. Actually, truthfully, I need to sleep first and foremost to be well-rested for Sunday!

Small note: my weird nail polish is the color of Crayola’s sea green. I was hunting for this color for a while and scored today.
